What I do.

This was a fun assignment to start with! For this assignment I decided to choose nursing as my title. A lot of the pictures I chose are humorous and somewhat accurate interpretations of others.

The first image I chose shows a nurse holding money. The majority of my friends think I make a ton of money, but what they fail to realize is that I have a ton of student debt on top of my regular everyday bills. The next image I chose depicts what my mom thinks I do. She actually has no idea what I do and tends to think I put band-aids on boo boo's and hand out lollipops. The next image shows what society thinks I do. This may come as a surprise, but a lot of people (patient's included) think nurses have a sick and twisted sense of humor along with drug problems. The image for what my boss thinks I do is how I feel every time she comes out on the unit. Everyone seems to scatter from what they are doing to go find something better to do. I'm sure a lot of nurses would agree with the picture I selected for what I actually do. I would say close to 80% of my job consists of charting.
The next image I chose relates to patients expectations. Patients tend to think we are at there beck and call and are only there to serve them and make them happy. This is true to and extent, however, if you call me to your room just to move your shoes from one side of the bed to the other, I am not going to be happy. Finally, the last picture I chose shows what I wish I did more of. It's hard for me to catch up on sleep when working full time nights. I'm sure anyone who works and is going to school feels this way! This assignment has made me realize that we have assumptions about everything and everyone. It's difficult for others to know what we do on a day to day basis without actually doing it. Completing this assignment has made me realize how others actually view me and my position.
